CSE3 student presents poster at Con
Mr. Daniel Krieger presented a poster titled “Modeling the Impact of Solar and Ocean Energy Integration on the Reliability and Resiliency of the Eastern North Carolina power grid system” at the IEEE SouthEastCon 2020 virtual poster session held online on March 29th, 2020.
ECU’s 2020 Coastal Scholar Award
CSE3 faculty, Dr. Randall Etheridge, received the 2020 Coastal Scholar Award from East Carolina University. Through the Coastal Scholar Award, the Coastal-Maritime Council recognizes tenure-track faculty that have contributed to our knowledge, understanding and improvement of physical, biological, and human systems of the coastal environment.
ECU Undergraduate Research & Creativity Awards
Two teams comprising of CSE3 students – Mr. Caleb Paul & Ms. Robin Harmon, Ms. Melany Contreras & Mr. Elijah Lee, won the ECU URCA Spring 2020 awards. Team 1 led by Mr. Caleb Paul will explore the use of bio-inspired design for energy extraction from ocean currents. Team 2 led by Ms. Melany Contreras will explore the use of supercritical carbon dioxide for extraction of gas hydrates. The students will be mentored in their research projects by CSE3 faculty affiliates, Dr. Yang Liu and Dr. Sid Mitra, and CSE3faculty, Dr. Praveen Malali. The research awards are provided by the ECU Office of Undergraduate Research. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the students are working on their research projects onlinesince mid-March.
