The BME-SIM program seeks to foster an environment where all students can be their authentic self and learning and living occurs in an atmosphere of mutual respect in pursuit of excellence.

Launched in 2014, the Biomedical Engineering in Simulations, Imaging, and Modeling (BME-SIM) REU Site provides authentic research experiences, professional development, and community to students from all over the country.

During the 10-week summer program, you work alongside renowned faculty to address complex medical and health problems utilizing advanced computational models.

You are engaged in the program from acceptance through post-graduation. Prior to the program, you interact with your mentors. The program kicks off with a week of activities geared towards providing foundational skills and developing relationships within the cohort and with REU faculty mentors. During the program, you work full time on your research project and grow through professional development opportunities. After the program ends, you reconnect at the Biomedical Engineering Society annual meeting. Communication is maintained throughout your academic career via LinkedIn, newsletters, and faculty correspondence.

We are seeking curious learners from across both the science and engineering disciplines with strong academic records that have an interest in the multidisciplinary nature of biomedical engineering. Students from underrepresented groups (women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities), community college students transitioning to 4-year institutions, and students from academic institutions with limited research opportunities are specifically encouraged to apply. Note student must be enrolled in an undergraduate program prior to and following the program.
