The Department of Construction Management’s Dr. George Wang paid a visit to two universities in Taiwan during a trip in December, exchanging ideas with faculty members at National Taiwan University (NTU) and delivering a guest lecture at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU).
Wang said his discussion with faculty members in the Civil Engineering Department at NTU covered topics related to research and teaching in the field of construction engineering and management.
“We talked about curriculum in undergraduate and graduate programs, research interests and funding resources, especially in the area of sustainable civil infrastructure,” Wang said.
His lecture to about 70 graduate students in the Department of Civil Engineering at NCKU also focused on the materials and methods of building sustainable civil infrastructure.
“Sustainable civil infrastructure impacts our well-being and day-to-day lives, and is a major area researchers, civil engineers and construction managers are paying more attention to,” Wang said. “Innovative technologies and materials play an important role.”
The visit and discussion has established connections for possible future research collaboration, academic exchange and study abroad opportunities for students, he said. Faculty members at NCKU showed interest in visiting ECU and in collaborating on a proposed application for research grant funding through Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
