ECU professor delivers papers in India

Dr. Merwan Mehta, a professor in the Department of Technology Systems in the College of Engineering and Technology at East Carolina University, delivered two papers and a keynote address in India.

On Nov. 21, Mehta delivered an invited paper at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, Mumbai, India. His topic covered “The 14 Grand Challenges in Engineering and Technology for the 21st Century.”

On Nov. 25, he delivered an invited expert paper at the Institute of Management Studies in Ahmednagar, India. His topic was on the “Best Practices of Leading World-Class Businesses.” He later delivered a keynote address at the “2019 International Workshop on Recent Trends in Management Studies and Future Aspects.”

Mehta teaches courses at ECU in engineering economics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other teaching interests include lean manufacturing, statistics for manufacturing, process excellence and total productive maintenance, among others.

His research interests are focused on enhancing manufacturing and business processes through lean principles and theory of constraints.

Before turning to academics in 2004, Mehta had more than 20 years of experience in business and industry as a business owner, vice president, manufacturing manager, project director and engineer. He has worked as a Lean Six-sigma process improvement consultant since 2000 and has been an examiner for the Missouri Quality Award.

The author of the book “Applied Engineering Economics Using Excel,” Mehta conducts workshops in the United States and internationally.
