Fall 2018 Commencement
The faculty and staff of East Carolina University’s College of Engineering and Technology recognized its Fall 2018 graduates during a recognition ceremony at Wright Auditorium on Friday, Dec. 14. The 234 graduates, including 49 graduate students and 185 undergraduates, along with their friends and families, filled the auditorium to celebrate their accomplishments and the transition to the next phase of their journeys.

Dr. Harry Ploehn, dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, noted the importance of the support from everyone in the students’ lives. “To all the family members and friends in the audience – your efforts to support these graduates, both financially and emotionally, deserve our deepest appreciation,” he said. Ploehn also acknowledged the contributions of the college’s faculty and staff.
Computer science major Seaver Thom said he’s going to miss the people and the friends he’s made at ECU as he looks for a job, and perhaps continues his education with a graduate degree. Construction management major Jacob Williams will return to his hometown Charlotte to begin a job as an assistant field manager for a homebuilder.
CET’s faculty gathered in the lobby of Wright Auditorium prior to the ceremony.
“It’s been a long road, and this is a great accomplishment,” Williams said.
Computer science major Kobe Jerrett is eyeing a likely move to the Triangle area, where there is a lot going on in his field, while Casandra Hubbard, who earned her master of science in occupational safety, will use the degree to advance her career as an occupationa health and safety specialist at one of Charlotte’s large hospitals.
“This was a distance education program,” she said, “and my professors and the program were awesome.”
Seaver Thorn, Derrick Chesson, Benton Johnson, Gerry King, Otto Fabel IV, John-Andrew Lovins, Laura Mosley, Mathew Ward, Leslee Gillikin, Andrew Mckeithan, Long Tran, Shubhninder Chana, John Creech, Jeffrey Jessie, Tyler Evans and Jonathan Giles were honored as Outstanding Seniors.
Nicole Allen, Quichawna Bryant, Nathaniel Montano, Morgan Roberson, Madison Speagle and Shelby Wiggins served as marshals for the ceremony.
Ploehn encouraged the graduates to always keep moving forward and to stay in touch with the college.
“We will always be here to help you in any way we can,” he said. “Based on your accomplishments so far, we have every reason to believe that you will triumph in your next Pirate adventure.
