RECRUITING PIRATES

Career fair draws nearly 150 employers

Joe Rist came to Greenville on a recruiting trip. As the sales engineering manager for JASCI and a 2014 East Carolina University graduate in industrial distribution and logistics, he knew he could find what he was looking for Thursday at the Engineering and Technology Fair at the Greenville Convention Center.

“I’ve had three good candidates come by,” he said after the first hour of the fair. “They were very level-headed and prepared.”

Nearly 150 employers representing the engineering, technology and construction fields set up tables, handed out gifts, provided information, and more importantly for ECU students and alumni, recruited them for job openings, internships and co-ops.

Rist said JASCI, a warehouse management software company, was looking for industrial software engineers, project managers, programmers, sale engineers, marketing personnel and business developers.

Sophomore Eric Kitt, left, an information and computer technology major, talks with Joe Rist, an ECU alumnus recruiting for JASCI.

“I graduated from ECU in 2014,” he said. “That’s why I’m back here. I want to hire some more Pirates.”

Eric Kitt, an information and computer technology major from Fayetteville, attended the event.

“I’m looking at internships and job opportunities,” he said.

Though only a sophomore, he said attending the job fair provided valuable information.

“I’m learning a lot more about jobs in my field and what I can be doing for work,” he said.

Karrington Evans, a senior from Greensboro, was among those who stopped by the JASCI table to speak to Rist.

“I’m looking to get anywhere I can to get my foot in the door and learn,” she said.

The management information systems major said attending the fair was important.

“I’ve made a lot of connections,” she said. “I’m so glad I came because I didn’t come last year.”

Those who were unable to attend the fair can search for jobs and internships through the ECU Career Services website. The site also includes information on career planning, resumes and cover letters, virtual workshops and interview preparation. Appointments can be made via Handshake. The College of Engineering and Technology Career Services office is located in room 239 of the Science and Technology Building.
