Teaching Interests

  • Dr. Bell teaches courses in the environmental engineering concentration, with a focus on water quality.

Research Interests

Dr. Bell’s research focus is on the development of sustainable environmental remediation strategies that inform decision-making and policies within the water-energy-food nexus. Specifically, she focuses on green infrastructure and ecological technologies, including constructed wetlands, subsurface bioreactors, and adsorptive filters, for treatment of urban and agricultural nonpoint source pollutants. Her goal is to understand water quality and quantity issues facing water users in eastern NC and beyond, investigate potential barriers that may limit the adoption of novel bioremediation technologies, and quantify ecosystem services that these technologies provide within urban and agricultural systems.
