ECU’s Earth Day Expo 2022

April 19th, 3-5 pm at the new Life Sciences and Biotechnology Building

Join us for interactive events for all ages! Various ECU researchers will have displays and activities available on topics related to biodiversity. There will be live animals and plants, lab activities, and more!  Kids from various after-school programs will be attending and the public is welcome!  The Biodiversity Initiative and Department of Biology at East Carolina University will host an Earth Day Expo on April 19thfrom 3-5 pm at the new Life Sciences and Biotechnology Building (corner of Evans and 10th Street). For that time only, free parking is available in the Life Sciences and Biotechnology Building parking lot. More details are available at https://biology.ecu.edu/biodiversity/. The Helping Hand Project Interest Meeting

The Helping Hand Project is a non-profit organization engaging students to design, develop, and distribute 3D-printed artificial limbs to children in the community. This is a student-run club that uses innovative and creative approaches to create recreational prosthetic devices. 3D printed hands are custom made for each individual!

    Outer Banks Research Opportunity

    Fall semester 2022

    ECU Engineering Students are now offered a new CURE (Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience). This course allows students to experience hands-on research. The course is ENGR 4503, Special Topics in Atmospheric Acoustics. The class meets basically all day on Fridays, and will usually meet at the ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese. Students must schedule their other courses with this in mind and must have transportation. Dorm-style lodging is provided for Thursday nights and some Friday nights.     REU Summer Program

    May 21st-July 30th, 2022

    The summer program will take place from May 21st – July 30th on-campus. Program participants will receive a $6,000 stipend, on-campus housing, meal plan, travel to the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) annual meeting, and reimbursement of travel funds (dependent on need). Rising juniors and seniors, students from underrepresented groups, veterans, and students from academic institutions with limited research opportunities are encouraged to apply. Applications from community college students who are transitioning to four-year institutions or within a semester from transferring are also encouraged. Qualifications include US Citizen or permanent resident, major in engineering, basic sciences, math, computer science or related disciplines, and strong academic record.

    We are currently accepting applications. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

    Innovative Summer School

    June 7-10th, 2022

    This June, we will be hosting the second Summer School on Innovative Approaches in Science in Research Triangle Park, NC. The Summer School is a week-long educational and training program for students and early-career researchers. The Summer School offers two tracks – toxicology and biomedical science, featuring specific applications of current innovative scientific research methods. The program consists of scientific talks, career development workshops, poster presentations, laboratory tours and demonstrations, networking opportunities, and more.

    The Summer School features speakers from Duke University, EPA, NIH, Johns Hopkins University, Unilever, University of Pittsburg, and many more. The program is free to attend, however, attendees are expected to cover their own travel costs. Several travel scholarships are available.

    Summer Research Opportunity

    Spring/Summer 2022

    Accepting applications to fill approximately 8 spots for undergraduate research assistants for spring/summer 2022. The application process will require some training/pre-screening days during the semester. (Training schedule to be announced). The research will take place at one of several field sites on the Outer Banks (Nags Head, Wanchese, Duck). Dorm-style lodging will be provided in Manteo, NC. Students must be available to live in Manteo from approximately 16 May 2022- 30 June 2022. Applicants must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination as this is a federally funded project. This is a paid position.
